Persisting black screen at ICA logon

During a recent XenApp 7.5 / PVS 7.1 implementation we had to upgrade the PVS Target device software.

After the reverse imaging/upgrade/imaging of the vdisk, we ran into the following issue. When starting an ICA session, the session was showing up in Taskmanager, but the Receiver showed a persisting black screen.

Using CTX126869, we had a look at the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\ AppInit_DLLs registry value:

It turned out, the 8.3 filename folders (progra~2 and progra~1) did not exist anymore. To recreate these, the following commands found in this topic were used:

mklink /J “C:\PROGRA~1” “C:\Program Files”

mklink /J “C:\PROGRA~2” “C:\Program Files (x86)”

After the recreation of the links, the launch of the ICA session succeeded.
